In the case of white marble the crystal structures of limestone change through pressure. The characteristic swirls and veins occur due to various mineral impurities that are present in the limestone. Through prolonged pressure over hundreds of thousands of years the geological structure is altered, resulting in the unique interlocking mosaic we admire in marble.
I have always been captivated by the shining beauty of marble stone! Yet I was surprised to learn that the very veins I admire are technically impurities of the original material.
To me marble is therefore the perfect metaphor for people. Every person has stories of hardship that can be transformed into growth and strength.
